Portland Mayoral Candidate Spotted With Skirt Featuring A Who’s Who Of Communist Leaders

Portland mayoral candidate Sarah Iannarone was spotted wearing a skirt emblazoned with the images of communist dictators Mao Zedong and Joseph Stalin, as well as communist revolutionary Che Guevara.

“This is Sarah Iannarone, who is currently leading Ted Wheeler in the latest polls in Portland’s mayoral race,” the Daily Caller tweeted in response to a photo of Iannarone from journalist Andy Ngo. “She is wearing a skirt depicting the images of Che Guevara, Joseph Stalin, and Mao Zedong.”

This is Sarah Iannarone, who is currently leading Ted Wheeler in the latest polls in Portland’s mayoral race.

Ngo also posted in a Twitter thread that Iannarone’s campaign manager, Gregory McKelvey, is a self-described “communist.”

Iannarone is running to replace Wheeler, a Democrat, who trails her by 11 points in recent polling after he received 49% of the vote compared to Iannarone’s 24% in a May runoff primary election.

Portland has been plagued by over 100 nights of consecutive protests and rioting following the death of George Floyd on May 25. Many of those nights involved attacks on police and destruction of government property.

A significant amount of the violence has been carried out by self-described “anti-fascists,” also known as antifa, which is a group that Iannarone has vocally supported in the past.

“It’s good to oppose fascism,” Iannarone told Fox News’s Jesse Watters in September when asked why she refers to herself as the “antifa mayor.

For weeks we witnessed Federal officers commit acts of violence against Portlanders in our streets, including shooting peaceful protesters in the head, arresting protesters without cause, tear gassing moms, and beating a Navy veteran,” Iannarone’s campaign website says. “Before Trump’s secret police left the city, Portland’s current mayor failed for months to prevent Portland’s police from violently attacking journalists and protestors exercising their Constitutional rights. These failures represent a devastating reality that we must unseat in November.”

“The picture in question was taken with Reverend Billy, whose spectacle of the absurd is a treat whenever it comes to town. I dressed flamboyantly that day in a skirt that features pop art — art that is meant to satirize the subjects. While most Americans are focused on stopping COVID from taking our lives and jobs, some internet commentators are focused on how I dressed during a performance art appearance in 2016. I’m focused on winning a Green New Deal and Housing for All Portlanders, not on false controversy meant to distract from real issues,” Iannarone told the Washington Examiner.
